Who would have though...

Who would have though that a luxury beachwear dress presented for the first time in 1999 by Amber Valletta on the Versace Spring 2000 collection catwalk, ...

... also modelled by the supermodel Christy Turlington...

... and officially seen "in public" back in December '99 during the Costume Institute Gala... Who would have tought that that green print silk chiffon with jewelled clasp gown will go down in history.

Even though Donatella was the first one in wearing it, both her attempt, and the one of Geri Halliwell some weeks after during the 1st NRJ Awards, have practically faded into oblivion. The day that did marked a huge before and after in the life of this green jewel came with Jennifer Lopez one month and one day after Geri, during the 42th Grammy Awards.

The same day, and thousands times from then on, her pictures appeared in about every magazine and TV channel around the planet. Just about everybody was talking about Jennifer, Versace and double-sided tape.

I think not even Donatella Versace herself would have thought that this luxury beachwear piece presented in the advertising campaign by its "godmother" Amber Valleta (I've been keeping this picture in my treasure files until now), ...

... admired by so many of us that were only able to observe it in the shopwindow...

... and currently exhibited in the Museum of Costumes in Bath as the dress of the year 2000, will be one of the most famous dresses of the history. Who would have thought that.

No necesitas muchas palabras. ¡Felicidades!

There are very few dresses that need almost no description when you talk about them. You need no picture when somebody says "that green dress J-Lo wore", "that green Versace...". You just instantly know. And this year the dress could celebrate its 10th anniversary since created. Who would have told it's been ten years already. Today I woke up with the idea of a post devoted to this green gown and all the ladies mentioned above. And all women with guts. And the double-sided tape inventors too. ¡Congratulations!
